Wilma J Hauck

June 25, 1925 — January 10, 2016

Wilma J. Hauck, 90, of Kingsley passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Hawkeye Nursing Home, Spirit Lake, Iowa. Born June 26, 1925, Wilma was the eldest daughter of Ray and Edna (Coatsworth) Hawkins. She had two siblings, a sister, Dorothy, and brother, Elwin (Al). Wilma grew up in the Kingsley area and graduated valedictorian in 1942 from Kingsley High School. She worked for attorney H. Floyd Phelps and the Kingsley State Bank for two years, then in Des Moines at the Iowa Department of Agriculture for nearly two years. On December 19, 1945 she married James (Jim) Hauck in her parents' home. The couple raised their three children in Kingsley, wintering in Arizona in later years. Wilma worked at the Kingsley Public Library for many years fostering her passion for reading. In addition to reading, Wilma completed daily crossword puzzles, enjoyed playing Bridge, golfed, and loved watching college and pro football and basketball. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends, often sitting on her front porch having tea or coffee with them. She was an active member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was church treasurer for many years. She was a member and past president of P.E.O., Order of Eastern Star, and Church guild. In March of 2011 she moved to Keelson Harbour Assisted Living in Spirit Lake, IA. Then in August of 2015 she moved to Hawkeye Nursing Home, Spirit Lake. Survivors include son, Dr. James M. and Cynthia Hauck of Naples, Florida; daughter, Rebecca and husband Byron Phillips of Fairmont, MN; and son, Timothy and Kim Hauck of Grand Prairie, Texas; Seven grandsons: Mark Phillips and wife, Rae; Andrew Hauck and wife, Elizabeth; David Hauck and wife, Laura; James Phillips and wife, Laura; Matthew Phillips and wife, Lisa; Jeffrey Hauck and wife, Lindsey; and Tristan Hauck. Two granddaughters: Taylor Hauck and Taryn Hauck. Five great granddaughters: Lizzie and Mara Phillips; Maddie, Kate and Josie Hauck. Two great grandsons: Maxwell Phillips and Oliver Hauck. One brother, Elwin (Al) Hawkins of Bellevue, WA and sister-in-law, Jeanne Hawkins of Seattle. Nieces, Julie (Greg) Wilson and Diane (Mike) Grennan and families. And one brother-in-law, John R. (Jack) Swanberg.Preceding her in death were her husband of 53 years, Jim, on April 13, 1999; parents, Ray and Edna Hawkins; mother and father-in-law, Mahlon and Ellen (Hughes) Hauck; sister, Dorothy Richardson/Swanberg; brother-in-law, William Richardson; an aunt, Fern Coatsworth, and many friends.Wilma loved her life in Kingsley. Thanks to all for being her friend and giving her wonderful memories to cherish. We are forever thankful for the skilled and compassionate care mom received at Keelson Harbour and more recently at Hawkeye Nursing Home of Spirit Lake. Hospice of Lakes Regional Healthcare, Spirit Lake, sent their additional care to mom since the week before Christmas. Thanks and many blessings to all of you from Wilma and family.
