Wilbert "Bert" D. McCain, 82, of Kingsley died Monday, November 25, 2013 at Countryside Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sioux City, Iowa.Wilbert was born September 8, 1931 to William and Doretta (Dorale) McCain in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1949. After graduation he enlisted in the US Marines and held the rank of Sargent. While stationed in Oceanside, California, Wilbert and Joan Hauser were united in marriage on July 17, 1952. When discharged, he and Joan returned to Kingsley where Wilbert worked as a farmhand for Ernest and Lucy Eppling. He also raised a Black Angus cattle herd for many years and had a fuel service for the farmers. Later Wilbert worked for the Kingsley-Pierson Community Schools as a bus driver and custodian.Wilbert is of the Lutheran faith and a member of the American Legion Nash Post 140 in Kingsley. He loved animals and the outdoors. Riding horses and fishing were his passions and it was hard on him when he had to give them up.Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joan; daughter, Vicky Hinz of Kingsley; grandson, Christopher Aeder of Cherokee; sisters, Helen (Jack) Bowman of Kingsley and Alice (Tom) Wingert of Sioux City.Wilbert is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Evelyn Bullington and Norma Horst; and son-in-law, Roy Hinz.
