Ronnie was born August 2, 1942, Kingsley, IA, the son of Roy G. and Joyce L. (Moritz)
Mathers. He started working at Clark’s Hardware in high school as a bookkeeper and
clerk and remained there for 48 years as partner and eventual owner. Ronnie and
Nancy Simons were married May 1, 1962. They lived and raised their two children in
Kingsley, IA.
Ronnie was a member of Kingsley City Council, Kingsley-Pierson School Board,
Kingsley Ambulance, Cosmos Lodge No. 470 A.F. & A.M., member and past president
of Iowa Retail Hardware Association.
Ronnie loved fishing, hunting trips with his son, and chasing coyotes with the fellas. He
missed his daughter, Kristi, every day since her death in 1999. Ronnie “Gramps”
cherished his three beautiful granddaughters. He loved retirement in Minnesota with
Nancy, where they spent their summers after selling their hardware store in 2008.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Nancy; son, Jeff Mathers, Firth, NE; granddaughter,
Alex and husband, Johnny Saunders, their sons, Cash and Jet, Bennington, NE;
granddaughter Morgan Mathers, Omaha, NE; granddaughter Dylan Mathers, Iowa City,
IA; sister Lynnette “Susie” and Dennis Anstine, Kingsley; nephew, Ray and Randi Anstine, Kingsley and
their children, Taylor and Cale; sister-in-law Lee Mathers, West Des Moines.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi Mathers, parents, Roy and Joyce
Mathers; brother, Larry Mathers, and Nancy’s parents, Lee W. and Dorothy Simons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kingsley Ambulance or a charity of your choice.
