Robert E Carnes

Robert Eugene Carnes, 83, of Pierson passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, August 21, 2013 after a courageous yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.Instead of services, Bob requests that family and friends gather together to celebrate his long and happy life. Robert "Bob" was born April 10, 1930 to Hosea and Jennie (Matson) Carnes in Hartington, Nebraska. On November 25, 1952 he married Dorothy Holtgrewe, and was a lifetime farmer in the Correctionville and Pierson area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes and golfing. Bob and Dorothy were avid dancers and travelers, enjoying square, ballroom, and polka dancing. Bob was also on the Marcus School Board for six years and a seed corn salesman for forty years. Bob was a very "clever" card player and enjoyed sharing his skills.Bob is survived by Dorothy, wife of 60 years; son, Bob and wife Kim of Sioux City, IA; daughters, Nancy and husband Kevin Henderson of Sartell, MN, Debra Herbold and Cindy Kleist of Gilbert, AZ; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.In lieu of flowers, the family requests to share a memory of Bob or donation be made to Cherokee Regional Medical Center Hospice at 300 Sioux Valley Dr., Cherokee, IA 51012.
