Rick Beelner

Richard “Rick” L. Beelner, 72, of Kingsley, passed away at his home surrounded by family on October 26, 2024. 

Richard Lee was born November 22, 1951, to Donald and Sylvia (Miester) Beelner. He grew up in Kingsley and attended St. Michael’s Catholic School through 8th grade and graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School with the class of 1970. Rick went on to graduate from Western Iowa Tech Community College with a degree in office equipment. On May 6, 1972, he married Debbie Horton. They lived and worked in Kansas City and Omaha before moving back to Kingsley to work in the family business, Beelner Service, and start a family. They were blessed with 3 children, Jennifer, Todd and Drew. Rick worked as a plumber, electrician and in media stripping, retiring in 2016. 

Rick was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, was a Cub Scout pack leader and enjoyed attending his kids' sporting events as well as fishing trips to Canada with his sons and friends. He loved classic cars and had a hobby of restoring them. His grandkids meant the world to him and he enjoyed attending their activities. In retirement you could find him at his shop tinkering with old gas pumps and pedal cars or making toys for his grandkids. Rick also enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Okoboji and around the kitchen table where many happy memories were made playing games, visiting and laughing. 

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie of Kingsley, IA, daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Florke, grandson, Nash Florke of Sioux City, IA, son, Todd (Stephanie) Beelner, granddaughters, Preslee, Harlow, and Kollyns Beelner, grandson, Lake Beelner of Kingsley, IA, son, Drew (Dani) Beelner, granddaughters, Kenna Haggin and Bailey Beelner, grandsons, Levi Haggin and Tucker Beelner of Kingsley, IA. Also surviving, three sisters, Betty (Roger) Hansen of Omaha, NE, Joan (Mike) Hagan of Kingsley, IA, Barb Clark of Oakland, IA and brother, Dennis (Cindy) Beelner of Kingsley, IA. Sisters-in-law, Joanie (Tom) Schneider of Akron, IA, Jill (Al) Madsen of Sioux Falls, SD, brothers-in-law, Gary (Theresa) Horton of Akron, IA and Mark Horton of Akron, IA. Several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Sylvia Beelner, father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Corriene (Rosenbaum) Horton, brother-in-law, Mark Clark and niece, Mindy Beelner.
