Hope J. Friedrichs

Anthon, IA:     Hope J. Friedrichs, 98 of Anthon passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024.  A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17 at Rohde Funeral Home, Kingsley, IA.  Burial will be at Kingsley Cemetery.  Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Hope was born to Jay and Marguerite (Bruce) Lehner June 19, 1926, on the family farm near Union, IA. She graduated from Union Consolidated School in 1943. On February 20, 1947, she married the love of her life, Merril Friedrichs, and to this union, three children were born: Terry, Ronald and Linda. 

Hope was a special woman and in the words of her Father-in-law, “There’s always a little Hope left.” She was a farm wife and loved her country life, raising beautiful flowers and making all kinds of goodies to share with others. She opened her home to children in the foster care system and welcomed in several youngsters to lead them on the right path. Her door was always open, and the coffee pot was always on. 

Hope is survived by her children: Terry (Suzanne) Friedrichs, South Sioux City, NE; Ronald (Tammie) Friedrichs, Moville, IA, Linda (Roman) Ermuk, Anthon, IA; and special foster daughters Lori (Gary) Johnson, Climbing Hill, IA and Sherry Sowell, Correctionville, IA. Grandchildren, Tina, Neal, Adam, Crystal, Kayla, Michael, Wyatt, Weston, Whitney, Amy, Katie and Dillon. Great-grandchildren, Colton and Jaden; Eleona and Caleb; Bentley and Ryker; Emma, Alexis, Tayden and Atlee; Palyn; Alayna and Madelyn; Hendrix; Hazel; Caliber, Atticus, Jaxon and Myla. 

Hope was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters: Keith Hiemstra, Joy Baker and Betty DeBoer; brothers: Verle, Dale and Delmar, a brother, John and sister, Bonnie in infancy; son-in-law Mark Shupe; and foster daughter Teresa Anderson.
