Evelyn A. Stubbs, 78, of Moville passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.Evelyn was born December 25, 1934 in Smithland, Iowa to Homer E. and Ethel J. (Carson) Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Moville, Iowa, attending school and graduating in 1952 from Moville High School. After graduation, she attended Wayne State Teachers College for one semester. On March 20, 1953, Evelyn was united in marriage to Steve Stubbs at the Federated Church in Moville.Evelyn was a member of the United Methodist Church of Moville and very active in the UMW church group, serving as treasurer for over thirty years. She belonged to the Moville Garden Club and the Meadows Golf Course, serving as the first woman on that board. She loved gardening, golfing, bowling, quilting, reading and crossword puzzles. She was one for never sitting still for long. Throughout the years, she had worked as a bank teller, church secretary, bookkeeper for Stubbs Construction, sexton for Arlington Township Cemetery and painter.Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Steve; sons, Denis (Jaine) Stubbs and Allan (Lynette) Stubbs; grandchildren, Blake Stubbs, Lacey Stubbs and special friend Mike Vennard, Jamie (Tony) Ekatomatis, Jessica Stubbs, and Jordan Stubbs; great grandchildren, Ian Ekatomatis and Brooklyn Vennard; sisters, Joy (Gary) Lillie, LaDonna Peters, Janice (Roger) Schnaible and Dee (Art) Ashley; sisters-in-law, Mary Stubbs and Juanita Thomas; nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Shirley Jean; in-laws, Pauline and Gordon Stubbs, daughter-in-law, Alice Stubbs, brothers-in-law, Gary Peters and Jack Stubbs.
