Elmira Erika was born August 22, 1921, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Carl A. and Effie E. (Mauritz) Skarin. She attended country schools and graduated from Kiron High School. After graduation she attended Telegraphy School and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad out of St. Joseph, Missouri. On April 28, 1945, she married Edward Goeke. Later that year her husband, Edward died unexpectedly. Elmira held various jobs after her husband passed away. She worked as a telephone operator, a receptionist in a doctor's office, and as a clerk in a drug store. Elmira was a very friendly and positive person who enjoyed working with the public. While living in Kiron she was a member of the Kiron Baptist Church. On May 1, 1960 she married Verle L. Paulson and moved to Kingsley. Elmira was an excellent cook and worked at the Caf in Kingsley, Iowa for over 35 years retiring at the age of 86.She enjoyed her home and sitting on her porch. Her children and grandchildren were a big part of her life. Elmira could always be seen supporting them in their sports and activities. She was proud to be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 67 years. While in the Auxiliary, she held various offices and sold many poppies. Elmira enjoyed traveling with her family and had fond memories of her many vacations.She was a 54 year member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church. She belonged to Eve's Circle and was a Sunday school teacher for several years.She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Dorothy (Dennis) Sitzmann of Kingsley, Iowa, and Deanna (Ted) Goslinga of Ankeny, Iowa, and grandchildren, Dave (Andrea) Sitzmann, Dana (Linda) Sitzmann, Dani Haggin (fiance, Drew Beelner), Stuart Goslinga and fiance, Brooke, and April Goslinga, great -grandchildren, Samantha, Mitch, Ashley, Tyler, Kenna, Levi and Bailey. Also, surviving are nieces and nephews.Elmira was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Edward & Verle, two brothers, Bruce and Lamont Skarin and one sister, Leola Gress.
