Douglas J. Henrich, 51, of Kingsley, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at a Sioux City hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Doug was born April 21, 1962 at Council Bluffs, Iowa the son of Francis "Mick" and Catherine "Kate" (Smidt) Henrich. He moved along with his family to Pierson, Iowa in 1963 when his parents started Henrich Septic Service. In 1966, the family moved to Kingsley, Iowa where they added portable toilet service to the business. Doug graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1980. During high school he participated in football, FFA and was wrestling manager. During high school and for a while after, he farmed for Jim Lindgren and Bob Mockler. On May 28, 1994 Doug was united in marriage to Amy Musgrave in Kingsley. He worked with his father until 2002, when he and Amy purchased the business known as Spot-a-Pot from his parents. He sold the business in 2012 due to his declining health. He was an avid sports enthusiast. Always willing to play catch or hoops with first his nieces and nephews then with his sons and daughter. Doug was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather who loved kids. He was also close to his siblings, especially his devoted brothers and was a loyal friend to many. He had a tremendous work ethic but his greatest joy was time spent with his children and later grandchildren, especially Landon (Lando man). He started coaching his youngest son, Colin and friends in 3 on 3 basketball in 2003. In 2004, the team grew to 7 and were affectionately known as "Doug's Boys." He took them to tournaments and got them involved in the Hayworth League at East High in Sioux City. Doug received his coaching certificate in the fall of 2012. He was proud to be an assistant high school basketball coach for Kingsley-Pierson during Colin's senior year. He had a real green thumb and enjoyed landscaping in their yard.
