Darrell was born February 20, 1937, in Union County, South Dakota, to Marion and Ida (Schieuer) Hackett. He was a 1955 graduate of Quimby High School. In June 1956 he was united in marriage to Iva Jean Bobolz. Their union was blessed with seven children. Darrell was a self- employed carpenter for thirty years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, spokesperson for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and dressed as Santa Claus for the University of Iowa Hospital. Darrell was an instructor for Hunter Safety for Iowa DNR, worked closely with Cherokee County Conservation and for 30 years, a scout master for Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include sons, Joseph Hackett and Patrice Haglund, Patrick and Brenda Hackett, Charles and Kristine Hackett, John Hackett and Cindy Jones, Andrew and Kimberly Hackett; a daughter, Suzanne Williams; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; sisters, Delora Jean Mitchell, Elaine Dyslin, Phyllis Ann (Lee) Campbell and Carol (Don) Gerjets; sisters-in-law, Anita (Harry, who was his best friend since childhood) Mansfield, La Von Wright; brothers-in-law, Ivan (Shirley) Bobolz and Don Bobolz. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Iva, daughter, Jill Hackett, brother, Duane Hackett, sister, Karen Berger, brothers-in-law, Duane Mitchell, Harold Dyslin, and Roland Wright.
