Alfred Edward Johnson was born at the family home in Henry Township, rural Kingsley, IA, to Oscar and Ethel (Bride) Johnson on November 18, 1925. He attended Henry #9 country school graduating from Kingsley High School in 1942. On August 9, 1969 he married Alvina Longstreth at the First Congregational UCC in Kingsley, Iowa. They lived on the family farm. They were the parents of four children- Brian, Susan, Wayne and Marla.Alfred was a lifelong farmer and lived in the same house his entire life. He was a 50 year member of the Plymouth County Farm Bureau. He served as Henry Township field assessor from 1954 to 1971 and as Henry Township Clerk from 1979 to 2006. He was a member of the yoked parish of the Church of the Brethren and Congregational Church in Kingsley. He served as a Sunday school teacher in the church of the Brethren and later the yoked parish. He was treasurer of the Church of the Brethren in Kingsley. Survivors include his wife, Alvina of rural Kingsley, his children Brian Johnson of Martin, TN; Susan Johnson of Olivia, MN; Wayne Johnson of Carroll, IA; Marla Johnson (Richard Cohen) of El Cerrito, CA; grandson Max Alfred Cohen of El Cerrito, CA; his sister Roxana Rivedal of Jackson, MN; in-laws James (Maria) Longstreth of Mundelein, IL; Marcia Kearney of Newton, IA; Dennis (Jean) Longstreth of Sitka, AK; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Preceding him death were his parents, Oscar and Ethel Johnson, two brothers- Gilbert as an infant in 1934 and Merlin in 1937; his parents in-law Alvin and Mary Longstreth, and a brother-in-law Daniel Kearney.Memorials may be given to Hospice of Siouxland, 4300 Hamilton Blvd, Sioux City, IA or Brentwood Good Samaritan Society- LeMars, 1140 Lincoln Avenue, LeMars, IA.
